6 Females, 4 Males

week 4- time for new digs

longing for the outside

time for new digs

feeding in new digs – last time lying down

playtime – how they have grown in 1 week!

Week 3 – the magic day 17 – overnight they went from  eating, sleeping machines to  puppies that woke up to explore each other and their surroundings

They are now puppies!

taking nap on mom’s head

still aggressively  feeding

Week2: Today, Jan 15. they are almost 2 weeks old – the bigger ones weigh in at a whopping 40 ounces while some of the smaller ones are  around 30 ounces. They are starting to wobble-walk – they take a few steps and then  roly poly fall  over.

Week 1: 2 of the males were not  gaining  weight – another trip to the wonderful  folks at Clanton, Malphus, Hodges and those 2 are now  doing well – still small but thriving and gaining weight. The pups are simply eating and sleeping.

Day 5 – Last day to get their dewclaws removed and I decided not to . I’ve had experience with watching dogs try to climb out onto ice after breaking through. Those with dewclaws climbed out successfully, those without – couldn’t make it. It is also better for muscle and ligament development for the dewclaws to remain. Furthermore, I didn’t want to stress the pups anymore than necessary.

Day 4 they have gained weight and are moving about almost on their legs. I have had to loosen their collars and in some cases, replace them.

Day 2 they weighed  about 16 oz. -some a bit less and  big red female a bit more.

the first few days have been tough. Her mammary glands were not fully ready. Putzi not eating  nor drinking. Now is is delicately taking  food that I hand feed her and drinking a bit of  the puppy milk replacer mixed with water. Pups seem to be doing ok.
